We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming show of support and for taking the time to fill out the petition on microfitaction.com. We received 1,439 unique responses, and as promised delivered the results directly to the OPA and MEI prior to their decision date. Sentinel Solar President Adam Webb met directly with OPA and MEI officials to bring forward all of your concerns, and to provide them with some clarifying data with regards to the true cost of Ontario made product. Having partnered with Solgate Inc, the first PV manufacturer to produce panels in Ontario, we were able to bring a very unique perspective to the discussion table and we thank the OPA for the opportunity to do so.
With the help of all of those who signed the petition, we were able to unite the industry’s voice and deliver a clear message, a message that ultimately helped move the OPA towards their decision to grandfather applicants who applied prior to July 2nd, and to increase the original price of $0.588 to $0.642. Although we do not consider the final ground-mount decision a total victory, we are pleased to see the OPA is taking a proactive approach to ensure the program’s stability and longevity. Now that we have a clear understanding as to the reasons behind the rate change, we can rest assured that the program is as strong as ever, and that all changes truly are with the best of intentions.
With an industry that is still in its infancy, it is imperative that we lay the correct path now so that we may ensure a strong and sustainable future in the renewable industry in Ontario. As we all move forward through this challenging growth process you may rest assured that our commitment to the industry, its installers and its consumers will never waiver.
The future health of our planet and our families depends on our ability to do the right thing and to make the right choices. These choices will have lasting impacts for generations to come.
